A.F. Stewart was born January 10, 1838 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to William Stewart and Sarah Willing. He began his adventures in the literary world at the age of five when he wrote his first poem about a lady bug being chased by a spider. He later attended grade school for two years at Beeton's Hall Academy before moving on to John Macdonell Collegiate Institute where he completed his academic studies by the age of seventeen. After being elected to the school board, Stewart was elected as an Ontario Provincial Parliamentarian in 1872. He married Kate Martin on February 7, 1873 and together they had one daughter, Muriel Gertrude Stewart born November 27, 1874.
He died November 15, 1913 in St. Thomas Hospital in Toronto following a long illness.
